Comprehensive Pediatric Respiratory Care

As a board-certified pediatric pulmonologist, I specialize in diagnosing and treating breathing and lung conditions in infants, children, and adolescents. Every child receives personalized care based on the latest evidence and a deep understanding of how respiratory issues affect growth, sleep, school, and family life.

Asthma

From occasional wheezing to frequent flares and emergency visits — we create individualized asthma action plans, teach proper inhaler/spacer technique, identify triggers, and adjust controller medications so your child can play, sleep, and grow without limits.

Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD)

For babies born prematurely who required prolonged oxygen or ventilator support, we provide long-term lung follow-up, oxygen weaning plans, nutrition guidance, developmental monitoring, and prevention of future respiratory infections.

Chronic Cough

When a cough lasts weeks or months and disrupts sleep, school, or play, we perform a thorough evaluation (including allergy testing, imaging, and sometimes bronchoscopy) to identify the root cause — whether postnasal drip, reflux, asthma, airway issues, or something less common — and create a targeted treatment plan.

Bronchoscopy

Flexible bronchoscopy allows direct visualization of the airways, collection of samples, and removal of foreign bodies when needed. Performed under sedation in a child-friendly environment at Kapiolani Medical Center, it is used to diagnose persistent wheezing, recurrent infections, chronic cough, noisy breathing, or suspected structural abnormalities.

Cystic Fibrosis

For children diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (or suspected CF), we provide comprehensive care including sweat testing, genetic counseling, airway clearance technique training, nutritional support, infection prevention, pulmonary function monitoring, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams. Early intervention and evidence-based therapies help optimize lung function, growth, and quality of life.

Tracheostomy Care

For children with a tracheostomy (trach) — whether due to chronic respiratory failure, airway obstruction, neuromuscular conditions, or post-surgical needs — we offer expert management including trach changes, suctioning training, humidification guidance, emergency preparedness, weaning assessments, speaking valve trials, and coordination with speech therapy, ENT, and home care teams to promote safety and quality of life.
